The Curriculum Is The Heart Of The Trinity Academy Education
The Trinity Academy Curriculum
At Trinity Academy, South Bend, all students engage in a thoughtfully designed curriculum that encompasses literature, writing, and history; mathematics and science; Scripture and Christian doctrine—both Catholic and Protestant traditions—as well as foreign language, music (including theory and performance), studio art and art history, and drama.
Our curriculum is intentionally structured to promote continuity and coherence, not only within each grade level but also across the entire span of a student’s academic journey. In a vibrant community of learners, students pursue the ideals of discovering truth, practicing virtue, and cultivating beauty by engaging deeply with course content and embracing the approach to mastery modeled by their teachers.
Through rigorous academic study—often centered around the careful reading and thoughtful discussion of original texts and primary sources—students sharpen their intellectual abilities, develop fluency in language, mathematics, science, and the arts, and cultivate the character and social virtues essential for meaningful participation in both their academic community and the broader society.
HUMANITIES
The humanities reading list at Trinity Academy features some of the most profound works of philosophy, literature, theology, and political thought from the Western tradition. Students engage deeply with these original texts through attentive reading, participate actively in thought-provoking seminar discussions, and refine their understanding through regular writing assignments.
MATHEMATICS
Mathematics is a cornerstone of a rigorous education at Trinity Academy. Our students not only develop strong problem-solving skills but also learn to think mathematically, gaining a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts. The Trinity program is crafted to inspire and challenge students at all levels of ability.
LANGUAGES
The study of languages fosters disciplined, well-trained minds. At Trinity Academy, students engage with formal English grammar, complete four years of Latin, and study a third language for two years.
SCIENCES
Science is essential for comprehending the world around us. At Trinity Academy, we begin with observation to cultivate a sense of wonder, progressing toward carefully designed experiments, the formulation of theories, and a deeper understanding of the mathematical principles that underpin scientific inquiry.
RELIGIOUS STUDIES
With a strong commitment to faith-based education, religious studies are a central component of the Trinity Academy curriculum. Students dedicate one year to studying the Old Testament, another to the New Testament, and further time to exploring Scripture and doctrine. They also have the option to choose between doctrine studies in Roman Catholic, Protestant, or Greek Orthodox disciplines..
FINE ARTS
At Trinity Academy, we believe that the accomplishments of the human spirit are expressed not only through language and mathematics but also through the fine arts. Our commitment to the arts is reflected in a curriculum where students engage with visual art in grades six, seven, eight, eleven, and twelve, study music in grades six, seven, eight, nine, and ten, and participate in drama during their junior and senior years.
